What's The Food Shed?

Founded in 2017, The Food Shed is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to reorienting northeast Ohio agriculture toward local consumers for future food security.

We hear a lot about supply chains these days. It’s one thing when a supply chain for your next phone or car is disrupted. It’s quite another matter when supply chains that feed you break down due to a pandemic, a war, climate change....

The Food Shed advocates for shorten food supply chains by relocalizing our food system.

Relocalizing the food system will require investments that support diverse, multi-scale farming operations; local food processing that turns raw agricultural products into ingredients; and the transportation routes that link farms to processors to markets to households.

Reinvesting is an optimistic activity rooted in a recognition of what really matters.

The Food Shed strives to make locally-produced ingredients more accessible, year-round. We offer food-centered workshops that help people know how to use and appreciate locally produced ingredients. We host socials highlighting and celebrating local food producers and their products. The Food Shed also offers workshops, consultation and other opportunities for area gardeners, whose “hobby” is key to global food security.
